Several hundred residents of Uttara sector 11 in the capital on Friday protested at the illegal allocation of the sector’s Welfare Society office land to Abdul Lalif, an alleged land grabber, with the involvement of corrupt officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha.

They formed a human chain and held a protest rally in front of Baitun Noor Jame Mosque at Sector 11 demanding cancellation of the allocation.

The society acting president, Firoz Zaman, former president Moin Ahmed and Bangladesh Nationalist Party Dhaka North City unit joint convener Afaz Uddin, among others, addressed the protest rally.

‘We urge Rajuk to cancel the illegal allocation of land to Abdul Latif. We have already submitted a memorandum to the Rajuk yesterday,’ BNP leader Afaz Uddin said.

Rajuk chairman retired major general Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that some people tried to grab the plot in the name of welfare society.

‘The plot was not given to anyone. The welfare society is making wrong allegations,’ the Rajuk chair said.

He said that protesters could file formal applications over the issue.

Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said that the protest began after the jumma prayers and continued for half an hour.
