Police on Thursday arrested one more suspect in the case of the rape and murder of union parishad member Basana Mallik in Narail Sadar upazila.
The new arrestee is one of the four accused named in the case filed over the rape and murder. With the latest arrestee, two of the named accused were so far arrested.
Narail district superintendent of police Kazi Ehsanul Kabir confirmed the latest arrest of Shafiqul Islam, 33. Shafiq is now on remand in police custody.
鈥榃e have arrested two people so far. One was arrested on the day the incident,鈥� the SP added. The suspect, Faruk Molla, 50, was arrested on the day the incident.
Basana Mallik, 50, was raped and poisoned on December 24 at a bush near her house on December 24, 2024 and died while undergoing treatment at Narail General Hospital on December 27, said a press release issued by the Police Headquarters, which was shared by the chief adviser鈥檚 press wing on Friday.
On December 28, evidences were sent to the Criminal Investigation Department for forensic tests, the release said.
