
Tributes pour in
Politicians, academics, labour leaders and people from all walks of life Saturday morning paid tributes to veteran labour leader and freedom fighter Shahidullah Chowdhury at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital Dhaka.
Later he was buried at the Demra graveyard.
The body was kept on the Central Shaheed Minar premises for one hour starting at 10:00am on the day and leaders of different political parties, labour organisations and socio-cultural organisations paid tributes by placing wreaths on the body of the late labour leader who died on Friday noon due to old-age complications. He was 84.
Leaders of his labour rights body Bangladesh Trade Union Centre, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Gono Forum, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Left Democratic Front, Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad, World Trade Union Federation, Bangladesh Jasod, Workers Party Bangladesh and others placed wreaths on the body.
Earlier on the day the body was kept at the CPB central office in the capital for one hour starting at 9:00am, where the central leaders and activists showed their respect.
From the Central Shaheed Minar the body was taken to his house at Demra where on behalf of the deputy commissioner of Dhaka, a police contingent gave him official guard of honour as a freedom fighter on the Bawyani High School ground.
