The two-day deputy directors’ conference of Bangladesh Rural Development Board was concluded at the BRDB headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, inaugurated the conference as chief guest, said a press release on Tuesday.
Rural development and cooperatives division secretary (routine charge) Md Mokhlesur Rahman was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was presided over by BRDB director general A Gaffar Khan. Â
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said that the benefits of the July-August uprising should be reached to the marginalised people.
‘Improving the quality of life of the neglected, low-income people will be one of the reflections of the July uprising. The expected success can be achieved with the proper contribution of BRDB officers and employees in poverty alleviation,’ he said, adding that BRDB had to play a leading role in poverty alleviation following the Three Zeros principle of the chief adviser.
‘The BRDB is a non-profit service-oriented organisation, so it will be converted into a department in the interest of the overall development of the country,’ he mentioned.
A Gaffar Khan said that new development projects needed to be implemented to improve the quality of life of the rural marginalised people. ‘In this regard, the budget of the Rural Development and Cooperatives department needs to be increased.’
