
Border Guard Bangladesh has seized various types of smuggled goods worth over Tk 2,184 crore 28 lakh 52 thousand by conducting raids in the country鈥檚 border areas and other places in the past year, said a press release on Sunday.
The seized goods included gold, silver, saris, cosmetics, sugar, onions, garlic, cumin, fish, betel nut, wood, stone, coal, imitation jewellery, stone statues, snake venom, ambergris, bidis and cigarettes, fertiliser, diesel, petrol, octane, mobile phones, mobile displays, glasses, chocolates, biscuits, pesticides, turtle bones, fireworks, trucks, covered vans, buses, cars, microbuses, pickups, CNG, easy bikes, motorcycles and bicycles.
The weapons recovered during the same period include 38 pistols, 5 SMGs, 18 grenades, 8 rifles, 6 revolvers, 52 guns of all types, 8,859 rounds of ammunition, 45 magazines, 4 mortar shells, 41 cocktails, 10.44kg of gun powder, and 233 blank cartridges.
In addition, a large amount of narcotics was seized by the BGB in the past year.
During this time, BGB seized 92,16,878 pieces of yaba, 84kg 791 grams of crystal meth ice, 31kg of opium, 2,14,028 bottles of phensedyl, 2,39,372 bottles of foreign liquor,, 1,84,280 liquor-making tablets, 13,266 cans of beer, 15,782kg of hemp, 264kg 84 grams of heroin, 6,024kg 353 grams of cocaine, 147 bottles of LSD, 89,07,343 Anegra and Senegra tablets.
At the same time, BGB destroyed 120 acres of poppy fields.
In addition, BGB operations at the border resulted in the arrest of 2,088 people on charges of involvement in various types of drug trafficking, including yaba and crystal meth ice and other smuggling, and 2,678 Bangladeshi citizens, 155 Indian citizens, and 14,336 Myanmar citizens for illegally crossing the border, and legal action was taken against them, added the BGB press release.
