Political party leaders and eminent citizens on Sunday demanded rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and wounded people during the July-August mass uprising.

They made the demand while addressing a human chain, organised under the banner of ‘Frontline students and people injured during the July-August mass uprising, in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.


The Gono Odhikar Parishad president, Nurul Haque Nur, addressing the human chain, said that five months had already been passed but the interim government was yet to take adequate steps for rehabilitations of the affected families.

He demanded immediate steps by the interim government for official recognition of the July-August uprising martyrs and taking more steps for better treatment of the wounded people.

Acclaimed photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam also demanded proper steps to provide adequate compensation for the victims’ families.

Gono Odhikar Parishad central leader Abu Hanif called on the government to take appropriate steps to ensure the country›s democratic transition.

The student-led mass uprising ousted the authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5.

The Mass Uprising Special Cell under the Health Services Division on December 21, 2024 released the first draft list of 858 martyrs and 11,551 injured people.
