
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology authorities suspended 29 students, all leaders and activists of the banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League, for their involvement in attacks on participants of the anti-discrimination students’ movement.
An official notice, signed by the university’s acting registrar Syed Salim Mohammed Abdul Kadir, announced the decision on Sunday.
According to the notice, the university syndicate took the decision in a recent meeting based on recommendations from the disciplinary board. The board investigated the attacks, which occurred between July 15 and August 5, targeting students involved in the anti-discrimination movement.
The syndicate also formed an investigative committee to determine additional punitive measures against the suspended students.
The suspended students are BCL SUST campus unit president Khalilur Rahman, its vice-president Shimul Mia, general secretary Sajibur Rahman, organising secretary Farhan Hossain Chowdhury, activists Md Habibur Rahman Habib, Mazidul Haque, Mohammed Raqibuzzaman, Yusuf Hossain Titu, Rezaul Haque, Maidul Islam, Md Lokman Hossain, Md Asiful Islam, Md Akash Ahmed, Elias Sunny, Durjay Sarker Nilay, Md Siam Khan, Sajib Chandra Nath, Syed Maj Zardi, Maniruzzaman Munna, Md Nafiuzzaman, Md Ismail Hossain, Shubhra Roy Shyam, Maruf Mia, Taimur Salehin Taus, Raufun Jahan, Shihab Uddin Mishu, Mujahidul Islam Saimun, Redowan Hossain and Tareq Hasan.
