A woman, impersonating a doctor, was arrested at the burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

The accused Dalia, 32, was apprehended by DMCH camp police on the third floor of the hospital after her activities raised suspicion among doctors.

Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Khalid Mansoor confirmed the arrest and said that a case was filed against Dalia for impersonating a doctor.

The arrested was produced before the court in the afternoon, the OC added.

The incident occurred at about 11:00am when Dalia accompanied a patient named Arman to the burn unit for a follow-up appointment.

Arman, who has been receiving treatment for a leg injury under DMCH doctor Salma Aman for a year, said that he believed Dalia’s claims of being a doctor as she was a distant relative of him.

Hospital authorities detained Dalia after noticing her suspicious behaviour. Despite wearing a doctor’s apron and a stethoscope, Dalia refused to provide any information or respond to questioning, according to Nasir Uddin, associate professor and in-charge of the burn unit.

‘Her behavior strongly indicates that she is a fraud,’ Nasir Uddin added.

On November 17, another fake doctor, Papia Akter Swarna, 25, was detained at the hospital.
