The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation has announced its decision to sell two vessels, MT Banglar Jyoti and MT Banglar Sourav, following fire incidents that rendered them unserviceable.
Officials said on Wednesday that the decision was finalised at a special meeting of the BSC Board of Directors, held on Tuesday.
According to the corporation, both vessels sustained significant damages during separate fire incidents on September 30, 2024 and October 5, 2024, respectively.
MT Banglar Jyoti and MT Banglar Sourav, part of the BSC fleet, had been key assets in the corporation鈥檚 maritime operations.
But the extensive damages caused by the fires made their continued operation economically unviable.
A BSC spokesperson said that the decision to sell the vessels was made in alignment with the corporation鈥檚 long-term strategy to optimise its fleet and maintain financial sustainability.
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, headquartered in Chattogram, plays a vital role in the country鈥檚 maritime industry, providing essential shipping services for both domestic and international trade.
