
Three separate courts in Chattogram rejected bail pleas of former housing and public works minister engineer Mosharraf Hossain and ordered his arrest in eight additional cases filed with different police stations.Â
The former minister was produced before the courts in Chattogram on Wednesday morning for hearings on petitions filed by investigation officers.
After the hearings, the judge ordered to show him arrested in these cases.Â
The hearings in five cases filed with Mirsarai and Jorarganj police stations were conducted by senior judicial magistrate Mahmodul Hoque, and two cases were heard by senior judicial magistrate Fardin Mustaqim Tasin, while another case was reviewed by senior judicial magistrate Muminunnisha Khanom.
Chattogram district public prosecutor Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury said, ‘His application for bail was refused by the courts.’
Inspector Habibur Rahman of the Chattogram district police said, ‘After the hearings, he was sent to jail.’Â
The former minister was arrested by the detective branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on October 27, 2o24 in the Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.Â
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, a former lawmaker from the Chattogram 1 constituency, represented the Awami League in Jatiya Sangsad in 1973, 1986, 1996, 2008, 2014, and 2018. He was also one of the drafters of Bangladesh’s constitution in 1972.
