Three police personnel, including a sub-inspector of Feni Model police station, were withdrawn from their duties early Monday on charge of extortion.
They have been attached to the district police lines.
The suspended police officials are SI Md Abdus Shukkur and constables Jahid and Ananda Mia of Feni Model police station.
Confirming the matter, Feni Model police station officer-in-charge Marmo Singh Tripura said that strict actions would be taken against them if the allegations were found to be true.
Feni superintendent of police Habibur Rahman said that among the three, preliminary investigation found evidence of the involvement of two.聽
鈥楴ecessary measures are being taken in this regard,鈥� he added.
鈥榃e saw a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver to take Tk 200 on behalf of them from a bamboo-laden truck while it was passing through Shaheed Minar on the Zero Point Trunk Road at Feni on the old Dhaka-Chittagong highway at about 1:00am on Monday,鈥� a witness and Dhaka University student Azizur Rahman Rizbi said.
At that time, some youths, including Rizbi, noticed that three police personnel inside the vehicle ordered the driver to do so.
Later, the youths interrogated them and informed to senior police officials, resulting in their withdrawal.
