The Kaiser and Wendy Zaman Fellowship, aimed at empowering adolescent girls who dropped out of secondary school, was launched on Tuesday under Brac鈥檚 Medhabikash programme, according to a press release on Tuesday.
The fellowship will establish learning centres to provide foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills education, helping participants resume formal education or explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
The launch event included the signing of a memorandum of understanding at Brac Centre in Dhaka on the day.
Wendy Zaman, Brac executive director, Asif Saleh, managing director of Brac Enterprises, Tamara Hasan Abed, executive director of Brac International, Shameran Abed and Nazia Du Bois, Yasmin Hussain and Syed Rezaul Karim, representing the family of Kaiser, were present.聽
The programme honours late Kaiser Zaman, a humanitarian and close associate of Brac founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed.
Zaman, a key organiser of the Independence War of Bangladesh and a former UNHCR official, envisioned the fellowship as a tool to break systemic barriers for disadvantaged youth.
