
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday filed two separate cases against two state ministers of the now ousted Awami League government, Meher Afroz Chumki and Zakir Hossain, on charges of amassing illegal assets.
Besides, the Dhaka special judge court ordered the seizure of the income tax file of former law minister Anisul Huq in connection with another graft case.
The commission filed two cases with its Dhaka-1 integrated district office, accusing former state ministers Meher Afroz Chumki and Zakir Hossain, said the agency鈥檚 director general for prevention Akhtar Hossen.
Chumki, who was the former state minister for the women and children affairs ministry and a lawmaker from the Gazipur-5 constitution, is accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 5.27 crore, according to the case documents.
Suspicious transactions worth Tk 22.31 crore have also been found in her nine bank accounts.
Zakir, former state minister for primary and mass education, has been accused of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 12.81 crore.
The ACC also found suspicious transactions of Tk 30.45 crore in his nine bank accounts.
Meanwhile, Dhaka metropolitan senior special judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib ordered the seizure of the income tax file of former law minister Anisul Huq.
The court passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The court, on January 20, showed Anisul arrested in a case filed on charges of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 146.19 crore.
He is also accused of making suspicious transactions of Tk 665.64 crore through 29 bank accounts.
Commission deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed the case on January 1, and the court has set March 20 for submitting the probe report in the case.
