Five officers have been injured- three of them seriously-in an attack on a team of Detective Branch of Faridpur district police during a raid on a drug and gambling den in Madhukhali in Faridpur.
The incident took place around 8:30pm on Tuesday at Dumain Bazar in Dumain Union of the upazila, police said on Wednesday.
The injured officers include sub-inspector Jabbar Hossain, Dewan Mohammad Sabur, and assistant sub-inspector Shafiqul Islam, who were rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Five others also received first aid for their injuries.
Dr Mohammad Tausif Sarkar of Faridpur Medical College Hospital said that Jabbar had three head injuries, while the other two were beaten. However, none of the injuries were serious, and all victims are out of danger.
Shailen Chakma, Faridpur鈥檚 additional police superintendent, said, 鈥榓 team of eight DB officers went to Dumain Bazar after receiving information about a drug and gambling operation. Two were arrested with drugs, and money and other equipment were seized from the gambling den. Suddenly, drug peddlers, gamblers, and locals launched an unexpected attack, resulting in three severe injuries and several others with minor injuries.鈥�
He mentioned that a case would be filed regarding the attack on the police, and the two arrested individuals have been brought in.
