
Commuters had to suffer immensely as dense fog disrupted air, road and waterway communications across the country on Monday.
Six international flights, scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on the day, were diverted to Sylhet, and Kolkata in India.
Besides, nine flights from and seven others to the HSIA were delayed on the day due to dense fog, according to HSIA officials.
On the other hand, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and the Aricha-Kazirhat ferry routes on the Padma remained suspended for eight hours on the day.
Commuters had suffer immensely for waiting at ferry jetties for the hours.
The water vessels and vehicles on roads had to move cautiously and slowly between midnight past Sunday and Monday morning due to low visibility due to dense fog.
Moderate to dense fog may occur at places over the country from midnight past Monday to Tuesday morning, and air navigation, inland river transport and road communication may be disrupted temporarily due to dense fog, the Bangladesh Metrological Department in its daily weather bulletin said on Monday.
HSIA authorities said that six international flights were scheduled to arrive at the HSIA from 3:30am to 4:50am on Monday and they were diverted to Sylhet and Kolkata.
The diverted flights landed at HSIA at about 10:30am on the day, HSIA executive director Group Captain Mohammad Kamrul Islam said.
He said that nine flights from and seven others to the HSIA were delayed on the day due to dense fog.
‘We may face such problems for the next two or three days for the same reason,’ he added.
The diverted international flights from different countries belong to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Jazeera Airways and SalamAir from different countries.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Manikganj, quoting Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s Aricha office manager Abu Abdullah, reported that ferry service on the Aricha-Kazirhat and the Paturia-Daulatdia ferry routes on the Padma were suspended at about 12:30am on Monday due to dense fog and were resumed at about 8:30am on the day.
The suspension caused significant disruptions for passengers and vehicle operators.
Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association general secretary Saiful Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they had alerted all bus companies to move their buses cautiously and slowly amid fog.
‘We are compelled to wait for hours at ferry jetties for past few days due to dense fog,’ Saiful added.
