Fuel strike in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions enforced by the Bangladesh Petroleum, Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Petrol Pump Owners’ Association has been withdrawn after a fruitful meeting with the adviser to the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
The decision was taken on Wednesday afternoon following a meeting with the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser, said the association’s Rajshahi Division unit.
The association called an indefinite strike in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions from Wednesday morning, protesting a drive that evicted an establishment of a leader of the association.
Selling of fuel in the two divisions remained suspended till 4:00pm.
On February 4, a mobile court evicted the illegal establishment of Anika Petrol Pump, owned by Abdul Jalil, general secretary of the association under Rajshahi division, on Bogura-Naogaon regional highway in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura district.
In protest, Bangladesh Petroleum, Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Petrol Pump Owners’ Association called the strike.
On January 24, Bogura Roads and Highways Department served a notice to remove the illegal establishment along the highway.
Asaduzzaman, executive engineer of the department, said the petrol pump owners leased space from the government for the movement of the vehicles coming to the petrol pump to take fuel.
But the owner of Anika Petrol Pump built an establishment illegally.
The association said no notice was served in this regard. Following the sudden drive, the owner suffered a huge loss.
Another petrol pump was also evicted during the drive in the upazila, it said.
