
At least 12 students were hurt as students of Ideal College and Dhaka City College clashed in the Science Laboratory area in the capital Dhaka on Sunday afternoon over allegations of stabbing an Ideal College student.
At least five students took primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and seven others at Popular Medical College and Hospital, according to police and students.
The clash between students of the two colleges took place at about 1:30pm on Sunday and continued for more than four hours in the city’s one of the busiest crossing areas.
During the clash, Ideal College students also removed the word city from the Dhaka City College nameplates.
People suffered immensely as traffic movement was halted for several hours in the area amid a tense situation.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that at least five students took primary treatment at the hospital.
‘The students were taken to the hospital between 4:30pm and 6:00pm. The injured were given treatment at the emergency department. They sustained head and shoulder injuries,’ Faruk added.Â
The injured who took treatment at the DMCH are Rion, 19, Irfan Ahmed, 18, AL-Amin, 20, Mahin Ahmed Chanu, 22 and Mohammad Nazmul Islam, 22.
They are all students from Ideal College.Â
Dhaka City College Higher Secondary Certificate examinee for 2025, Abdus Samad, said that at least seven of their students took primary treatment at Popular Medical College and Hospital.
Dhanmondi police station officer-in-charge Ali Ahmed Masud said that three students were injured in the clash under his jurisdiction.
Kalabagan police station officer-in-charge Md Muktaruzzaman said that the students locked in a clash over the allegations of beating a City College student by Ideal College students.
‘I have been watching the enmity between the two colleges’ students for the past six months. They clash with each other over trifling issues,’ the OC said, adding that it has now become part of everyday experience. Â
New Market police station OC Md Mohshin Uddin said that a team of the police station was deployed in front of Dhaka College.
