The government will use the Climate Change Trust Fund to pay the beneficiaries of the social forestry initiative, forest, environment and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said on Sunday.

The social forestry initiative oversees forestation with participation by individual members of society, who are supplied with seedlings by the Department of Forest.

The participating individual becomes the beneficiary when the tree planted by him or her is sold with the proceeds going to the individual.

The adviser said that from now on the trees would be protected and not cut down.聽聽

The trees under the social forestry will be protected for maintaining ecological balance and none will be allowed to cut down them except in urgent cases, she said while addressing a discussion at Rangpur Circuit House.

Rizwana also stressed the importance of planting native trees instead of Acacia and Eucalyptus, said the press release.

She highlighted the necessity of effective coordination among government agencies to protect the environment, restoring forests, and implementing pollution control measures to tackle droughts, floods, and river erosion.
