
The urban and regional planning department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology inaugurated the two-day 1st URP Planners’ Reunion and Planning Carnival at the RUET on Thursday.
Teachers, alumni and students of the department brought out a rally on the occasion in the morning, said a press release.
Attending the event as chief guest, RUET vice-chancellor Professor MS Abdur Razzak inaugurated the event by releasing balloons.
The VC also unveiled the cover of the special publication titled Nagarkathon 3.0, which was published on the occasion of the carnival.
Later, a discussion was held at the RUET Central Auditorium, which was presided over by head of the URP department, Professor Ilmi Faridatul.
In his speech, Abdur Razzak said, ‘Organising the 1st URP Planners Reunion and Planning Carnival will increase awareness about urban planning, create mutual connections between professionals and students, and students will develop their creativity by participating in various planning-related events.’
Deputy director for administration of the Student Welfare ZHM Manjur Morshed, president of the Association of RUET Planners’ Alumni Shubhkanti Poddar, member of the board of Bangladesh Institute of Planners’ Md Fahim Abedin, deans of various faculties, directors and heads of departments of the university were present at the event.
Various events such as poster presentation, photography competition, project design, documentary exhibition and debate competition will be held along with workshops on the occasion of the carnival.
A cultural programme was organised by the URP department at the central auditorium.
