
Faruque Ahmed, a Bangladeshi civil engineer having experiences to work on different metro rail projects in different countries, joined Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited as the managing director on Wednesday.
The new MD will replace Mohammad Abdur Rouf, who has been working as the managing director since September 9 past year.
The company鈥檚 Mass Rapid Transit Line 鈥6 project deputy project director for public relations Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi confirmed the appointment on the day.
The DMTCL earlier posted a recruitment notice on its DMTCL website on October 23 and following that some resident and non-resident Bangladeshis applied for the position of managing director.
According to the curriculum vitae of Faruque Ahmed, he is currently working for Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India-Systra France under a project for constructing a dedicated freight corridor from Khurja to Pilkhani and Khurja to Dadri EDFC.
He had 37 years鈥 experiences in metro delivery, and transport infrastructures including elevated structures and tunnelling, freight rail, conventional rail, and high speed rail in countries including Bangladesh, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
Faruque joined the company at a time when some of the officials and employees of the company have threatened to stop metro rail services on February 21 if their demand for independent service rules is not met.
The officials and employees, under the banner of 鈥楧MTCL permanent officers-employees recruited through direct open recruitment鈥 have given three working days from Tuesday to Thursday to the authorities concerned to accept their demand.
