The government on Thursday made associate professor Sohel Hasan Galib, also a poet and essayist, an officer on special duty and attached him to Shyamnagar Government Mohsin Degree College in Satkhira.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the education ministry issued a gazette notification in this connection, withdrawing his appointment on deputation at the National Academy for Educational Management as Bangla training specialist.
Galib was arrested on February 13 from Sanarpar area at Fatullah in Narayanganj over allegation of making derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad (SM) in a poem.
On February 14, a Dhaka court sent Galib to jail, rejecting his bail prayer.
On February 17, the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court placed Galib on a two-day remand after the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch had produced him before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.
Galib鈥檚 arrest sparked protests among a cross-section of people, including poets and writers.
