Three passengers of a battery-powered auto-rickshaw were killed, and three others were injured when a truck hit their vehicle in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Friday night.

Dupchanchia Police Station officer-in-charge Faridul Islam said that the accident occurred at about 8:30pm in Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area on the Naogaon-Bogura regional road.


The auto-rickshaw’s axle reportedly broke as it entered the road, and at that moment, a speeding truck carrying cattle from Naogaon to Bogura rammed into it.

‘Three people died on the spot. The remaining three were rescued with serious injuries and taken to a hospital. They were returning home after working at a tiles factory when the accident occurred,’ the OC said.

The deceased were identified as Mozahar Ali, 60, son of the late Abdul Aziz from Baliadighi in Gobindapur union; Sadiqul Islam, son of Md Saiful from the same area; and Shahidul Islam, 60, son of the late Mansur from Santahar in Naogaon.

Police sent the bodies to the morgue for post-mortem examinations, while the truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle, the OC added.
