
At least 14 people, including two children, were killed and 16 more were injured in road crashes that took place in six districts in the country on Friday and Saturday.
The highest four accidents involved three-wheeler vehicles followed by three involved with buses.
United News of Bangladesh reported that two people were killed and 12 others were injured when a bus crashed into a tree on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj at around 10:00am on Saturday.
The deceased are Montu Sheikh, 55, the driver of Tungipara Express, and Arif Hossain, the supervisor of the bus.
Azizul Haque Rajan, station manager of the Bhatiapara fire service, said that the Tungipara Express bus first hit the rear of a Khulna-bound Shohag Paribahan bus and then hit the tree, leaving 12 people injured.
The injured were taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared the duo dead, he added.
Two youths died on the spot when a pickup van hit a trolley carrying them near the Moranghona Bridge under Konakhali union at Chakaria upazila in Cox鈥檚 Bazar in the early hours of Saturday, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The deceased are M Rubel, 28, son of M Harun Rashid and M Selim, 22, son of M Mohiuddin, both residents of Pekua upazila in the district.
Md Manjur Quader Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Chakaria station said that the accident took place at around 12.30am.
He added that the bodies were handed over to their families in the morning.
BSS also reported that a schoolboy was killed when he put his head outside a bus carrying him and then bumped against a roadside tree from a running bus in the Chhataria area at Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur on Saturday.
The deceased is Rashedul Islam, 14, a Class X student and son of Siddiqur Rahman, a resident of Char Adra village of the upazila.
Police said that the incident took place when Rashedul was going to a school picnic with other school students by the bus.
UNB reported that three passengers of a battery-powered auto-rickshaw died on the spot and three more were injured when a truck hit their vehicle in the Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area on the Naogaon-Bogura regional road at Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Friday at around 8:30pm.
The deceased are Mozahar Ali, 60, son of late Abdul Aziz from Baliadighi in Gobindapur union; Sadiqul Islam, son of Md Saiful from the same area; and Shahidul Islam, 60, son of late Mansur from Santahar in Naogaon.
Dupchanchia police officer-in-charge Faridul Islam said that the auto-rickshaw鈥檚 axle reportedly broke before the accident when the victims were returning home after working at a tiles factory.
The seriously injured were taken to a hospital where the bodies were kept for autopsy, the OC said, adding that the truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle.
BSS reported that a clash between a trolley and a battery-run auto-rickshaw killed two people and injured three others on Friday noon on the Dashmina-Galachipa Highway in the West Lakshmipur area under the Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali.
The deceased are Tanjila Begum, 30, of Arozbegi village and trolley driver Rakib Hossen, 30, of West Lakhsmipur village.
Tanjila died on the spot while Rakib died on her way to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The bodies were handed over to the families, police said.
BSS also reported that a motorcyclist and his rider died on the spot when a Labiba Paribahan bus on the Brahmanbaria-Dhaka route hit the motorcycle from behind on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in the Dhukundi-Charabagh Bazar area under Raipura Upazila in Narsingdi at around 2:00pm on Friday.
The deceased are Md Roni, 28, son of Md Jumman Mia and Md Taposh, 29, son of Habibur Rahman, both had business and were from Jangi Shibpur village under Uttar Bakhar Nagar Union in Raipura.
Md Nurul Haque, officer-in-charge of Bhairab Highway Police Station said that the driver fled the scene with the bus and they had handed over the bodies to their families without autopsy.
UNB reported that a day labour and a child were killed in two separate road accidents in Magura on Friday.
The deceased are brickfield labour Tobarak Mollah, 40, a resident of Nahata village under Mohammadpur upazila, and 18-month-old child Morium, daughter of Murad Hossain of Dakshinpara of Sripur upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station Burhan Ali said that a speeding three-wheeler taxi crashed into Tobakrak when he was going to his workplace by a bicycle at about 7:00am.
Tobarak died on the spot and a case was filed in this regard, he added.
A speeding human hauler, locally known as Nasiman, rammed into the child while she was playing on a road in front of her house in Sonatundi village at around 10:00am, said Sripur police station OC Taslim Hossain.
They registered a case, he added.
