BdREN has recently organised a seminar titled Access to IEEE Journals: BdREN Initiatives, bringing together librarians from public and private universities across Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The event aimed to raise awareness about BdREN鈥檚 role in managing the University Grants Commission digital library and facilitating seamless access to IEEE Xplore and other e-resources, said a press release on Wednesday.
The seminar began with a welcome speech by Mohammad Tawrit, chief executive officer of BdREN, followed by a special address from Omar Faruque, director, ICT, UGC, who highlighted the objectives and expected outcomes of the initiative.
He expressed that UGC-UDL management had been handed over to BdREN for a better delivery of service.
Previously maintained by the UGC, the UDL is now under BdREN鈥檚 management, ensuring continued access to e-journals and e-books for researchers and academics, both on-campus and off-campus.
During the technical sessions, Abu Naser Md Nafew, network engineer, provided insights into TIGERfed, Bangladesh鈥檚 first and only identity federation for education and research institutions.
He demonstrated the updates and progress of remote access to the digital library resources using TIGERfed.
Additionally, BdREN鈥檚 Digital Library consultant, Muhammad Hossain Haider Chowdhury, demonstrated the modalities of accessing digital library resources using BdREN鈥檚 infrastructure.
His presentation covered BdREN鈥檚 role in IEEE Xplore subscriptions, advanced search strategies, remote access through federated authentication, and effective outreach strategies for maximising resource utilisation.
