
A youth was killed in a clash between two groups of people of Ramnagar village in Gangni of Meherpur on Wednesday.
The deceased, Hridoy Hossain, was a resident of Chargoal village in the upazila.
Mira Islam of Ramnagar village bought a tractor a few days ago. A portion of a gate of local eidgah collapsed after being hit by the tractor at Chargoal village, Bani Israil, officer-in-charge of Gangni police station, said.
He also added that as a sequel to the incident, local people of Chargoal village swooped into the Ramnagar village to take the son of Mira, who was driving the tractor on Wednesday morning.
Zannat, a motorbike workshop owner, obstructed them from taking him away and tried to settle the issue.
Both groups engaged into a heated argument, triggering a clash and Hridoy was killed after being hit by a stick during the clash.
As soon as the news spread, the local people of his village vandalised the shop of Zannat and set it on fire.
A number of motorbikes were gutted in the fire.
The police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A tense situation has been prevailing in the area following the issue, mentioned the OC.
