The road transport and bridges ministry on Wednesday changed the name of the Bangabandhu Bridge over the River Jamuna and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the River Karnaphuli.
The ministry鈥檚 Bridges Division issued a circular on the day announcing that the 鈥楤angabandhu Bridge鈥� has been renamed as the 鈥楯amuna Bridge鈥� and the 鈥楤angabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel鈥� becomes 鈥楰arnaphuli Tunnel鈥�.
The ministry on Monday changed names of four highways and eight bridges, including the name of the expressway on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga route.
All these roads and highways were earlier named after the country鈥檚 founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his family members.
Recently, the government has also changed the names of 13 public universities which were earlier named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
