Rights organisaton Ain o Salish Kendra on Wednesday urged the government to take immediate action to prevent increased violence against women across the country and ensure their safety.

The call was made in a statement signed by ASK chairperson and Supreme Court lawyer ZI Khan Panna.

‘Nowadays, the increase in violence against women is alarming. Rape, murder, physical abuse and torture, and abduction have become very prominent. The women's society of the country is passing through an unstable environment,’ the statement read.

The government action to ensure women’s safety is not enough, the statement said.

It said that steps should be taken as well to end hatred and violent behaviour towards women observed in social media.

The rights body in its statement also condemned the incident of beating up two women and cutting off their hair in Gazipur.

A video of the incident went viral on the social media platform Facebook recently.

The rights body called on the authorities concerned to take appropriate visible steps to stop violence against women.
