In an effort to create a safer digital environment for the youth of Bangladesh, the JAAGO Foundation and the TikTok jointly organised a roundtable discussion titled National Dialogue on Youth and Online Safety at the Platinum Grand of Banani in Dhaka on Thursday.

This dialogue, organised as part of the ‘Sabdhane Online A’ campaign launched in 2022, brought together policymakers, technology industry leaders, journalists, academicians and youth representatives to engage in a discussion on the current state of digital security in Bangladesh and ways to improve it, said a press release.

During the roundtable discussion, experts shed light on digital risks in Bangladesh, including cyberbullying, misinformation and data privacy concerns. They also presented recommendations on how government and private sector collaborations could ensure a safer and more responsible digital space for young users.

Jahangirnagar University’s institute of information technology professor Shamim Al Mamun emphasised that the importance of digital safety in Bangladesh was growing every day. ‘While online platforms create new opportunities for young people, they also increase the risks of cyber threats. Incorporating online safety education into our academic curriculum is essential to prepare the next generation.’

Tanvir Chowdhury, project manager of Shabdhane Online A campaign, JAAGO Foundation, said, ‘Our collective efforts must continue to ensure that young people can stay safe online and become responsible digital citizens.’
