Members of the Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday arrested two youths allegedly engaged in drug dealing for attack on police in Karwan Bazar area of Dhaka city on Thursday.
RAB-2 personnel arrested Md Shahin Alam, 27, and Md Din Islam Kalu, 23, in the afternoon, said a RAB press release.
On Wednesday, a video went viral on social media, showing a group of youths surrounded a police member and attacked him. They had sharp weapons with them.
Later, a case was filed regarding the incident, RAB said.
According to the case statements, a police patrol team arrested the drug dealer Shahin Alam while selling drugs in Karwan Bazar area.
He then screamed, resulted in his fellows鈥� gathering on the spot with sharp weapons, RAB said, adding that then they attacked the police officer and Shahin managed to flee.
Shahin was a leader of groups involved in extortion, drug trade and mugging, and accused in several drug and mugging cases in different police stations of the capital, RAB said.
鈥楨fforts are on to arrest the other accused,鈥� the release added.
