
The chief adviser鈥檚 press secretary Shafiqul Alam on Saturday said that the prices of most essential commodities had now reached a tolerable level compared with the previous Ramadan due to various measures adopted by the interim government to stabilise the prices of essentials during Ramadan.
He also said that the interim government was working to ensure a level playing field for all political parties to hold a free and fair election in the country.
His remarks came at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
About the prices of essentials in Ramadan, he said that the interim government remained focused on maintaining stability of prices of essentials.
Noting that during Ramadan the demand for certain products, including edible oil, snacks, chickpeas and dates, increases, he said that the government was taking necessary steps to keep their prices at an affordable level.
About the ongoing shortage of soybean oil in the market, Shafiqul said, 鈥榃e are continuously monitoring the supply situation of both unpackaged and bottled soybean oil.鈥
The price of loose soybean oil had begun to decrease slightly. Prices would stabilise as the supply improved as the government was making efforts to maintain a steady supply of the bottled soybean oil, he said.
The press secretary further said that commerce ministry, the National Board of Revenue, the Tariff Commission and Bangladesh Bank were working collaboratively to keep prices in check.
鈥榃e can say that the prices of many products have become more stable compared with the previous Ramadan and the prices would be more stable in the coming days as the government is trying to increase the supply,鈥 he said.
About requisitioning buses by the Pirojpur deputy commissioner office for the public gathering at the launching ceremony of the National Citizen Party, Shafiqul Alam said that the DC office helped in getting five buses following requests and pressure from the students and members of Nagorik Committee, July uprising injured and the families of the martyred.聽聽聽
Noting that there was no role of the interim government in this matter, he said that the government was working to create a level playing field for all political parties to hold a free and fair election.
鈥楾he government thinks that ensuring the level playing field for all political parties is its key responsibility,鈥 he continued.
Asked about the forthcoming national elections, Shafiqul said that the interim government had already provided a road map for the elections.
If political parties were for minimal reforms, the elections would be held in December, but if they demanded more reforms, the elections would take place in March 2026, he added.
