
At least five people were killed in road accidents in Dinajpur, Lakshmipur, Rajshahi and Chandpur districts between Monday night and Tuesday.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that an old man was killed as a covered van hit him on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road under Singra union parishad of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur on Tuesday.
The deceased is Abdul Baki, 70, a resident of the union.
Ghoraghat police officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque said that the police arrested covered van driver Faruk Mia, 25, and seized the van.
The BSS reported that a man was killed and another injured in a road accident on the Majuchowdhuryhat-Karatirhat road under the sadar upazila of Lakshmipur on Tuesday morning.
The deceased is Maksudur Rahman, 21, son of Masud Alam, a resident of Samserabad area of the upazila.
The accident took place at around 10:30am when a speeding tractor hit a motorcycle from opposite direction, leaving its rider Maksudur dead on the spot and injuring its pillion, said Sadar police OC Abdul Monnaf.
A case was filed in this regard, the OC said.
In another incident, BSS reported that a college student was killed on the spot as his motorbike collided head-on with a human hauler in the Belna crossing area under Mohanpur upazila in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
The deceased is Abul Basher, 18, of Bahadurpur village under the same upazila.
Mohanpur police sub-inspector Nawshad Ali said that the driver of the human hauler managed to escape leaving his vehicle.
Meanwhile, the BSS reported that two youths were killed after their motorcycle collided with a covered van at Puran Bazar in Chandpur on Monday night.Â
The deceased are Mohammad Avi, 17, and Niloy, 20, of Puran Bazar area.
According to their family members, both of them used to live in Italy with their guardians.
According to locals, the accident took place when a motorcycle collided head-on with a covered van in front of Puran Bazar Girls’ High School at around 10:30pm as Niloy along with Avi was moving towards Natun Bazar from Puran Bazar riding on the motorcycle, leaving both of them critically injured.
Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station OC Md Bahar Mia said that the driver of the covered van managed to flee the scene, but his vehicle was seized, and the assistant of the driver was in custody.
