The advisory council on Tuesday discussed the recent incidents of mob attacks and harassments, especially a mob attack at Mohammadpur in the capital Dhaka.
At a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital Dhaka after the advisory council meeting, environment, forest, and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the council discussed the incidents of ‘mob justice’ and ‘moral policing’.
She said that incidents of ‘mob justice’ and ‘moral policing’ would significantly decrease once the law and order was fully restored in the country.
Rizwana, also water resources adviser, reiterated the government’s strong position against ‘mob justice’ and violence against women and urged for increasing public awareness to combat such incidents.
She said that while such incidents had recently been reported in some areas due mainly to the ongoing law and order challenges, the government’s stance remained firm against ‘mob justice’ and ‘moral policing’.
Referring to a recent incident at Mohammadpur, she said that both parties involved had settled their issues in front of police, calling it a ‘final decision.’
On March 1, two women fell victims of a mob attack over smoking cigarettes at Lalmatia in Mohammadpur area in Dhaka that triggered street protests against mob violence and harassment.
In response to a question regarding the demand for resignation of home adviser, Rizwana said that the home adviser would remain in his position.
