Young people from different walks of life at a discussion on Monday urged the government to let them know whether their recommendations were incorporated in the voluntary national review report.

The Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and others organised the discussion at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital Dhaka.

The voluntary national review aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, with a view to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

It also seeks to strengthen policies and institutions of the government and to mobilise multi-stakeholder support and partnerships for the implementation of the sustainable development goals.

Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh convener Debapriya Bhattacharya, also a distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue, said that earlier the government made two VNRs without taking opinion from stakeholders.

He hoped that the new one would be truly a representative report.

He urged the government to let the youths know whether their recommendations were addressed or not.

Youths divided into four groups discussed four priority issues — education, voice, employment and climate change.

The groups demanded quality education for the young generation and quality-based decent job opportunities with decent wages.

They also demanded a space to press their demands and a clean environment for the future.

The young representatives said that they wanted an inclusive society with justice, equality, fairness of power and accountability.

UNDP assistant resident representative Anowarul Haq and SDG affairs director general Shihab Quader, among others, spoke at the programme.
