
Man dies after daughter raped, Imam held for rapeÂ
At least three rape incidents were reported in Dhaka, Sunamganj and Chattogram on Sunday as anti-rape protests have flared up across the country.
In Dhaka city, a 10-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her father named Sajal Hossain, 40, in Baridhara area on Sunday, Gulshan police sub-inspector Naim Uddin Sujan said, adding that the victim’s mother filed a case against Sajal on Monday.
The child was taken to the one-stop crisis centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an emergency physical examination at about 1:00pm on Monday.
Sajal raped the child after finding her alone at home at about 11:30am, the sub inspector said, adding that the child told her mother when she returned home.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that in Habiganj’s Baniachang upazila, a 50-year-old man named died on Monday after he came to know that his six-year-old daughter was raped.
Police arrested the accused, two teen-agers named Nofayel Miah, 17, and Shamim Miah, 15, both residents of Dakshin Zatrapasha-Banmathura village of the upazila.
Nofayel and Shamim reportedly allured the six-year-old with Tk 10 to buy candy and took her to a nearby jungle of Dakshin Zatrapasha village on Sunday afternoon and raped her.
Hearing the child scream local people rushed to the spot and rescued her in critical condition.
The girl’s grandmother filed a rape case with the Baniachang police on Sunday night, the police said.
Her father who had been ill for the past several days fell terribly ill and died after he was informed of the incident, said the victim’s uncle.
Baniachang police officer-in-charge Md Golam Mostafa said that the victim was taken to the local upazila health complex but was later shifted to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital in deteriorating condition.
In another incident in Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj, a Muslim cleric named Mawlana Shafiqur Rahman, 42, the Imam of Bangaon-Uttarpara Jame Mosque, was arrested on Sunday on charges of raping a girl in his room adjacent to the mosque.
Chhatak police officer-in-charge Mokhlesur Rahman Akhand said that the arrested was sent to jail after he was produced before the court on Sunday.
‘The victim was sent to the one-stop crisis centre at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for medical examinations,’ the police officer added.Â
Meanwhile, a security guard named Pradip Kumar Banik, 52, was arrested on Sunday night for raping his 10-year-old daughter repeatedly in absence of the mother in Chattogram, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Chattogram reported.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Abdul Karim said that the victim’s mother filed a case early Monday against her husband Pradip, alleging that he perpetrated multiple rapes of his daughter.
