The highway police arrested five people while they were attempting a robbery on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Feni early Monday.

Cumilla highway region police superintendent Mohammad Khairul Alam in a press briefing on Monday said that the highway police arrested the robbers on the highway and seized local weapons and vehicles used in the robbery.


The arrested are Suleiman, 38, Zaman, 42, residents of Kadamrasul area under Sitakunda in Chattogram, Lokman Hossain, 30, Nahid, 25, and Elias, 26, residents of Charrosit village under Subarnachar in Noakhali.

A highway police patrol team signaled a private car to stop on the Dhaka-bound lane in front of Fazilpur Nazir Ahmed Brickfield after noticing suspicious movement, said the police.

When the driver attempted to flee without stopping the car, the police chased it down and detained them, he added.

Following the arrest, a case was filed against them, and they were handed over to the Feni model police station.

The five arrested robbers are members of an inter-district robbery gang. Multiple robbery cases have been filed against them in various police stations, including in Chattogram and Noakhali, he said.
