The students of theatre and performance studies department of Dhaka University on Wednesday staged a protest event against rape at the anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture of the university.
The event titled Ar Kobe comprised a street performance and discussion demanding capital punishment for perpetrators and safety for women.
They also demanded the safety of students on their campus.
The performance depicts how perpetrators create obstacles for women of all classes and ages. When women protest, the perpetrators criticise them. The performance also addresses that women, especially students, played a vital role in the recent student-led mass uprising.
After the performance, associate professor of the department Shahman Moishan said that they want a safe environment for women in the country.
‘After the student-led mass uprising the state went through a difficult time due to the changed political situation but the government must ensure the safety of women and stabilise the law and order situation because justice must be established in the country which was the main spirit of the uprising,’ said Shahman Moishan.
Nilima Rashed, Sazid Rahman and students of the department also spoke at the event.
