Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University celebrated World Kidney Day 2025 through various programmes on the campus of the BSMMU in Dhaka on Thursday.
The event was organised by the initiative of the BSMMU paediatric kidney department, said a press release.聽
BSMMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam inaugurated the rally as chief guest.
In the rally organised by the paediatric nephrology department of BSMMU and the Paediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, Shahinul Alam, in his speech, said that if children had kidney disease, it was important to detect it quickly and take action accordingly.
A seminar titled Early Detection and Prevention of Renal Diseases in Children was organised at the initiative of the paediatric nephrology department.
Chairperson of the department o and president of the Paediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, Professor Dr Afroza Begum said that the department had provided medical services to more than 6,000 paediatric kidney patients in the past one year.
Professor Dr Golam Main Uddin, Professor Dr Kabir Alam, Professor Dr Shamim Parvez, associate professor Dr Salma Jahan, associate professor Dr Syed Saimul Haque, associate professor Dr Tahmina Jasmine, assistant professor Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant professor Dr Shanjida Sharmin, among others, were present at the seminar.
The discussion meeting organised at the Super Specialised Hospital was presided over by the convener of Bangladesh Renal Association and former chairman of the department of nephrology, BSMMU, Professor Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
The secretary of the Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, Md Saidur Rahman, spoke as chief guest at the discussion.
Shahinul Alam, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr Md Abu Zafar, founding president of Kidney Foundation, Professor Dr Harun Or Rashid, BSMMU pro-VC Professor Dr Md. Abul Kalam Azad and pro-VC Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader were present as special guests at the discussion.
