The High Court on Thursday issued a rule asking the government and the authorities of South Bangla Hospital Limited in Noakhali to explain within four weeks why Tk 50 crore would not be paid in compensation to a father.
The father, MA Awal from Noakhali, accused the hospital authorities and its physician concerned of causing the death of his daughter and her newborn due to alleged medical negligence and wrongful treatment.
A bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by MA Awal, the father of the deceased.
According to the petition, Awal took his pregnant daughter, Umme Salma Nishi, to the hospital for treatment on December 29, 2023.
Doctors, however, allegedly performed a caesarean section without conducting necessary medical examinations or obtaining the family鈥檚 consent, resulting in the deaths of both the mother and her newborn.
Petitioner鈥檚 lawyer, Solaiman Tusher, alleged that the deaths were caused by the hospital鈥檚 negligence and the greed of its management and physicians, making them liable for compensation.
