The police on Sunday recovered the body of a farmer from a water body under Mohanpur in Rajshahi, six days after he had gone missing.
The deceased, Altaf Shah, 52, was a resident of Dhurail Mondalpara village in the upazila.
Altaf went missing after he had gone to irrigate his paddy field on March 9 night, said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur police station.
As he did not return home at night, family members went to the paddy field next morning and discovered brain-like tissue and bloodstains scattered across the field.
On the same day, Altaf鈥檚 family filed an abduction case against his uncle, Motafa, and cousin, Shariful, after a local villager had reported seeing Shariful in an argument with Altaf while they were irrigating the field.
Ataur Rahman said that local people found the body of Altaf lying in a water body, six kilometres away from his paddy field, on Saturday morning and informed the police.
The police later recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the police official said, adding that they had arrested Altaf鈥檚 uncle but Shariful went into hiding following the incident.
