The National Memorial at Savar has been temporarily closed to the public for nine days, starting from Monday, amid security maintenance and beautification works.
A notice announcing the restriction has been put up at the main entrance to the memorial on Monday.
According to the notice, the restriction is in place to facilitate cleaning, maintenance, and security arrangements ahead of the celebration of Independence Day on March 26, 2025.
Mizanur Rahman, the sub-assistant engineer of the Public Works Department and in-charge of the National Memorial, said that the president, chief adviser, and foreign diplomats would pay their respects to martyrs at the memorial on March 26.
To ensure proper security preparations, public entry has been restricted until March 25.
During this period, maintenance and beautification work will be carried out at the memorial, he added.
The gates of the National Memorial will be reopened to the public after the president and chief adviser pay their respects to marters on March 26, marking the official observance of Independence Day.
