Rashtra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator and Supreme Court lawyer Hasnat Quaiyum lodged a writ petition with the High Court on Sunday, challenging the public notice issued by the Election Commission for new political party registration.

Chief election commissioner, secretary of the EC secretariat and Electoral Reform Commission have been made respondent in the writ.

‘We filed the writ challenging the EC’s public notice yesterday. In the writ, we challenged different issues, including depriving the hilly people from forming political parties,’ said writ petitioner Hasnat Quaiyum.

Earlier on March 10, the EC issued the public notice inviting applications for the registration of new political parties.

In the notice, the intending political parties have been asked to submit the applications by April 20.
