
A male and a female, workers of a non-governmental organisation were allegedly tied up and tortured after getting picked up by a group of stalkers after collecting loan instalments at Chandina in Cumilla on Monday.
The male worker was tied to a tree and given electric shocks while his female co-worker was filmed naked and threatened to post the video on social media platform Facebook demanding ransom of Tk 2 Lakh.
‘After giving Tk 26,000, they stopped beating me and started to assault the woman and at one point, they started filming her naked and threatened to spread the video on Facebook, demanding ransom again,’ he alleged.
Later, the woman called her sister to send her Tk 20,000.
Chandina police officer-in-charge Nazmul Huda said that the male victim filed a case on Tuesday against four individuals on allegations of kidnapping, ransom and extortion.
The plaintiff, however, did not mention filming the woman naked but police were investigating the matter, the OC said.
Quoting the victims, OC Nazmul said that the group snatched Tk 26,000 in cash from them while Tk 20,000 was taken from the woman’s sister through mobile financing service BKash.
‘They reportedly were tortured since the evening of Monday till 11:00pm that night in a garden on the bank of a pond at Dakshinpara in the Tulatli area under the upazila,’ he said.
Later, local people sensed the incident and chased the miscreants, he said, adding that on information, the police rescued the two and took them to Chandina Upazila Health Complex.
OC Nazmul said that police were trying to apprehend the accused.
