
One of the accused in a case over rape of a female journalist at a construction site at Barontek ‘Green City’ area in the capital’s Pallabi, made a confessional statement regarding the rape incident before a Dhaka court on Wednesday.
The accused Enamul Haque, 38, voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement, which was recorded by the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mostafizur Rahman before sending him to jail, said Abul Kaiyum, investigation inspector of the Pallabi police station and also the investigation officer in the case.
‘They both were produced before the court on Wednesday and Enamul was sent to jail after recording his confessional statement and another accused, Hamidur Rahman Russel, 53, was also sent to jail,’ he said.
A seven-day remand was requested for Hamidur Rahman, the police official said, adding that date for the hearing was set on March 30.
Earlier, Pallabi police officer-in-charge Mohammad Nazrul Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the 50-year-old victim filed a case against eight named individuals and eight unnamed individuals on Tuesday afternoon.
The two were arrested on the day, he said, adding that the incident reportedly happened in an under-construction building at Pallabi between 1:00am and 8:00am.
Police officer Nazrul said that the victim mentioned that she worked for a daily.
The victim was admitted to One Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the evening, said Sabina Yasmin, coordinator of OCC at the DMCH.
