The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday filed a case against former Awami League lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap on charges of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 68.76 crore.

The illegal assets of Golap, who was a member of parliament from the Madaripur-4 constituency and a former special assistant to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, include flats, houses, and assets in the United States.


The case was filed with the ACC integrated district office in Dhaka-1 following an approval from the commission, said ACC director general Md Akhter Hossain at a briefing at the commission鈥檚 office in the capital Dhaka.

Akhter said that Golap allegedly misused his power, engaged in irregularities and corruption, and laundered money to purchase nine flats and houses in Queens of New York.

Gopal鈥檚 properties in the US are valued at Tk聽32 crore, he said.

According to the case document, Golap amassed assets worth Tk聽68.33 crore beyond known sources of income.

He also conducted suspicious transactions of Tk聽97.63 crore in 51 bank accounts.
