Jahangirnagar University authorities have suspended Saju Shaha, an assistant professor at the marketing department at the university, on allegation of sexual harassment.

JU registrar and syndicate secretary A B M Azizur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

He said that the suspension was approved at an emergency syndicate meeting held on Tuesday, with vice-chancellor professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan in the chair.

‘The university’s anti-sexual harassment cell sent a letter recommending the suspension of assistant professor Saju Shaha after a sexual harassment complaint was filed against him,’ said Azizur Rahman.

He also said, ‘As per the recommendation, the syndicate has decided to suspend him in the interest of a fair investigation.’

Earlier on March 23, the victim student in a Facebook post accused marketing department assistant professor Saju Saha of sexual harassment.

‘Assistant professor Saju Saha sexually harassed me in the name of counselling,’ the student said, adding that due to the incident, she could not even attend the classes properly.

Later, she lodged a complaint with the anti-sexual harassment cell of the university in this regard.
