Jahangirnagar University authorities have suspended Saju Shaha, an assistant professor at the marketing department at the university, on allegation of sexual harassment.
JU registrar and syndicate secretary A B M Azizur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
He said that the suspension was approved at an emergency syndicate meeting held on Tuesday, with vice-chancellor professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan in the chair.
鈥楾he university鈥檚 anti-sexual harassment cell sent a letter recommending the suspension of assistant professor Saju Shaha after a sexual harassment complaint was filed against him,鈥� said Azizur Rahman.
He also said, 鈥楢s per the recommendation, the syndicate has decided to suspend him in the interest of a fair investigation.鈥�
Earlier on March 23, the victim student in a Facebook post accused marketing department assistant professor Saju Saha of sexual harassment.
鈥楢ssistant professor Saju Saha sexually harassed me in the name of counselling,鈥� the student said, adding that due to the incident, she could not even attend the classes properly.
Later, she lodged a complaint with the anti-sexual harassment cell of the university in this regard.
