The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday suspended its assistant director SM Mamunur Rashid as he was facing a case allegedly for torturing his former wife demanding dowry.

The ACC in an official order signed by ACC director (Administration and Human Resources) Daud Hossain Chowdhury suspended him.

ACC public relations officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the news.

According to the official order, Mamunur Rashid was named in a report published by a private television channel under the headline ‘Rape case fugitive still working at ACC’.

The news accused him of regularly attending his office despite a warrant was issued against him in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The report further alleged that Mamun had misused his position at the ACC to harass the victim, said the order.

The ACC stated that Mamunur was facing a case filed by his former wife with a court in Sirajganj allegedly for assaulting the victim for dowry.

On October 22, 2024, the senior judicial magistrate court in Sirajganj observed that the preliminary review of the documents and surrounding circumstances indicated that there was truth to the allegations made against him.

The ACC further said that Mamunur Rashid’s activities had severely tarnished the image of the ACC while his behavior had been deemed an act of misconduct under the ACC Employees’ Service Rules, 2008.

As a result, the ACC has decided to suspend Mamunur who had joined the ACC as an assistant director in 2022, said the ACC order.

Sources in the ACC said that Mamun was also accused in another case filed by a women with the Dhaka chief judicial magistrate court in 2024 allegedly for raping her at a home in Ashulia by alluring her to marry.
