
Politicians, academics and professionals on Thursday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the world community to be vocal to stop Israeli aggressions against Palestine.
The Palestine Solidarity Committee, Bangladesh organised the rally in front of the National Press Club protesting at fresh attacks by Israel on Palestinian people violating the ceasefire.
Dhaka University professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury, the convener of the committee, said that the attack on Palestine by Israel was the attack by imperialist forces and that the government of the United States was behind this.
‘We must defeat the imperialist forces without which we would not be able to stop such attacks,’ Serajul Islam said.
Former Jahangirnagar University professor and economist Anu Muhammad said that Israel had started fresh attacks on the innocent Palestinian people and killed about one thousand people violating the ceasefire.
Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mohammad Shah Alam called on all the democratic political parties of the country to be vocal against the atrocities by Israel.
Central leader of the committee, Harun Ur Rashid, announced that they would hold countrywide protests against Israeli aggressions.
CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, Revolutionary Communist League general secretary Iqbal Kabir Jahid, Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, CPB presidium member Abdullah Kafee Ratan and others attended the programme.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
Israel unleashed intense strikes, killing more than 400 people in Gaza on Tuesday, one of the highest death tolls in a single day since the beginning of the conflict, drawing global condemnations.
