Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University ABM Obaidul Islam attended a three-day international conference titled Recent Trends in Science, Technology and Innovation concluded in Pokhara, Nepal on Friday.

BOU VC addressed the inaugural session of the conference, said a press release.


He also presented a keynote address titled The Role of Partnership in Encouraging Regional Innovation through Distance Learning.

He said that in the context of rapidly evolving education, partnerships played a vital role in encouraging regional innovation, especially through distance learning, exploring the transformative power of international collaboration.

The keynote highlighted how digital education, including MOOCs and open educational resources, could bridge geographical and institutional divides, drawing insights from the initiatives of Bangladesh Open University.

The Covid-19 has highlighted the need for flexible, technology-driven learning models that reinforce the relevance of traditional education, hybrid learning, and digital accessibility, he said. 

BOU Professor Md Sirajul Islam also presented an article at the conference. Besides, Professor Sabina Yasmin and Professor Md Mizanur Rahman of the BOU were also present as invited guests at the conference.

Moreover, the two-day inaugural meeting of the ‘Academia Gender Equality Mainstreaming Project was held at Pokhara University, Nepal in March 16-17. A delegation of 4 members led by BOU VC participated in the meeting.
