A case was filed on Sunday against Mahbub Morshed, managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, and two others on charge of defamation.

Abdul Hye Sikder, editor of Jugantor, filed the case with the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Zia Uddin, said Anwarul Islam, a lawyer of the complainant.


The two others are Khairul Alam, former joint secretary of a faction of the Dhaka Union of Journalists, and Asaduzzaman Asad.

After recording statements of the complainant, the court asked the three to appear before the court on April 28.

According to the case documents, on March 17, writer Mahbub Morshed allegedly posted a ‘fabricated’ poem on his Facebook account, mentioning that the poem had written by poet Abdul Hye Sikder.

Two others defendant also shared the poem along with ‘baseless writing’ on their Facebook, it said.

The case statement also alleged that the defendant defamed the complainant through their ‘false, fabricated and baseless’ writings on social media between January 1 and March 17.
