
Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam at a seminar at the BMU in Dhaka on Monday said that an advanced emergency room or department or emergency medicine was very important to save lives by providing emergency medical services to injured patients.
He made the remark at the seminar titled CME on Essential of Trauma Care in the Emergency Room at the Super Specialised Hospital of the BMU, said a press release.
Addressing the seminar as chief guest, Shahinul Alam said that about 7,000 people killed in road accidents in the country every year.
‘The number of injured is three times more than the death. In this situation, advanced emergency rooms or departments or emergency medicine are very important to save lives by providing emergency medical services to injured patients,’ he added.
There is, however, a great opportunity to provide the world’s most modern medical services to injured patients, including liver transplants, at the Super Specialised Hospital of the BMU, he said. Â
He further said that the combination of modern technology and expertise was very important in trauma treatment. ‘Making the right decision at the right time in the emergency department can play a big role in saving the life of a patient.’
Orthopaedic surgery department and planetary health academia of the BMU jointly organised the seminar. Emergency medicine specialist of University of Texas Dr Asahi Maksura Hossain presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
BMU proctor orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sheikh Farhad, associate professor Dr Md Ali Faisal, additional director of Super Specialised Hospital Dr Md Shahidul Hasan, PHA president Dr Shakil Farid, medicine specialist Dr Aktaruzzaman and plastic surgeon Dr Towfique Elahi, among others, spoke at the event with orthopaedic surgery department chairman Professor Dr Md Anowarul Islam in the chair.
